As I mentioned in the last update, I was able to take the Motor City Kitties out to battle in their first preseason game under the new coaching regime. My approval rating was 55 going into the game and the fans had high expectations against the Colts. We went into battle with our starting lineup on the field and had them play about a half as it took me a minute to figure out how to do mass subs earlier.  It was quite apparent very early that big FA signing, Michael Turner, was going to contribute to the team. He ripped off a couple of chunks of yardage to start the game was very prominent in the Lion's offense. In one half of football Turner carried the ball 9 times for 49 yards and 1 TD. He impressed the new coaching staff in just his first game. The same, however, could not be said for starting QB John Kitna. Overall, I was quite disappointed in the play of John Kitna. He held onto the ball way too long and threw bad pass after bad pass. He only finished 8 of 15 for 80 yards and 2 INT's. Not quite the start we expected with our veteran QB. That being said, the 2nd year QB out of Michigan State, Drew Stanton, took over in the second half and was very productive by going 11 of 13 for 189 yards and 2 TD's. He looked very sharp and confident behind center, he made his reads and got the ball out in a timely fashion. There could be a bit of a QB controversy brewing if he keeps this up.
I think the rookies as a whole played well in this first preseason game. Rookie TE Fred Davis caught 2 balls for 70 yards and 1 TD, MLB Dan Connor had 7 tackles and a sack, and SS DeJuan Morgan had 5 tackles to go along with 1 INT. Morgan was all over the field during the game making plays. First Round pick Jeff Otah didn't give up any sacks and played a decent game too.
I'm actually really excited about how the rookies are producing and the direction of the team, but it seems that the rest of the city is not.   My approval rating dipped to 36 after the 31-24 loss to the Colts. It doesn't really matter much to me as I only really worry about how certain people feel about the team. Here's the breakdown of how my approval rating is thus far...
Fans 20
Media 13
Owner 55
Players 77
Staff 37
Now, I could care less what the fans and media think. This team has been piss poor for so long that it takes someone to throw all that out the window and change things. When the W's start coming around, so will the fans and media. It is quite obvious that the players like what they are seeing at this point as well. As far as the staff goes, I plan on dumping them after the season anyway. This is my ship and this team needs to improve!
Hopefully I can get the 2nd preseason game in soon. It seems that EA Sports has a bit of a problem with their games as they keep on giving people Dirty Disk Errors. I tried getting the 2nd game in last night, but got a DDE.....again. So I hope to have something up soon on the progress of the Detroit Lions!
