Some very interesting news hit yesterday concerning the NBA 2K11 cover athlete. As ESPN had hinted last week, the cover guy for this years' 2K basketball game is the legendary Michael Jordan.
(More on the story HERE from 1GN)
Personally, I'm pretty excited about this. I think few people realize that the past several versions of NBA 2K did have about 100 classic players from the 70s, 80s, and 90s as part of period-specific all-star teams. I also think even fewer realized that you could drop those players from those All-Star rosters via trade with current teams, and bring those legends into your franchise. I would always put the legends on their respective present day franchise teams to see what would shake down. (Nothing like a Celtics roster with Paul Pierce, KG, Bird, Parish, and McHale.... or Kobe on the Lakers with Magic and James Worthy.) Plus, its always fun to see Dr. J back on the 76ers roster. Nothing like a towering dunk by the good doctor, with his vintage 'fro above the rim during the throw-down.
In the past, I'd even create a Michael Jordan lookalike with his stats, and put him on the Bulls. (Guess I won't have to do that anymore!)
Gotta say, playing with the present day teams mixed with legends from the past is a lot more interesting to me than the standard NBA fare. (Hey, and..go figure...the legends generally are better free-throw makerst than current "stars".. so pay attention youngsters!). So it may be very cool to see how 2K utilizes the best basketball player ever to play the game as part of the 2K11's feature set. I know I'm paying more attention to it now.
I just hope that EA's new "NBA JAM REMIX" for Wii didn't make Bird and Magic exclusive to that game only...I want to bring the "Big 3" back into my NBA 2K11 franchise.
(Because I see Paul Pierce being relegated to the Celtics 6th man. Larry Legend does not sit the bench. Sorry Paul.)
