According to Kotaku.com 2K has cancelled it's College Hoops series due to low sales and has decided not to renew the license.  It has also been rumored that EA is now in negotiations with the Collegiate Licensing Company for the exclusive license.

"2K Sports has decided not to continue negotiations with the CLC for the license for its top-rated College Hoops franchise, which would have been released next in November 2008. We are committed to providing fans with high-quality, critically-acclaimed sports games, but given our disciplined approach to the business, we do not believe the current discussions would result in an acceptable outcome."

On Tuesday evening we got to participate in a College Hoops 2K8 conference call with Producer Zach Timmerman and Assissant Producer Jerson Sapida of 2K Sports and College Hoops 2K8 cover athlete Greg Oden.  The good folks at 2K Sports wanted to give us a little incite on what to expect with the upcoming Hoops title that is due to be released on November 19th, just a short week away.

One of the goals that the 2K Sports team had was to make the game a little more friendly to the casual players. They feel that even though their games are pointed more towards the hardcore crowd, they didn’t want to make the game too intense so that it would scare away the casual gamers. One of the ways that they did that was by making the play diagram show up on the court so you know how to run the play, much like how it is in NBA 2K7.  Another way they are making the game more casual gamer friendly is that you can pull of the post moves by using the face buttons rather than using the R-stick due to the fact you can get better results without having to mess around with the accuracy of the R-Stick.

Vetzballin.com has posted more information regarding the upcoming College Hoops 2K8 title.   They start getting into the inclusing of the ABL and how it works as well as posting a couple more videos; one showing the ABL Legacy setup and another one featuring 7-minute game footage.

"Today as our pre-release coverage of 2K Sports College Hoops 2K8 continues, we take a look at the new Amatuer Basketball League (ABL) located within the legacy mode. Posted are two new videos including a full game featuring a ABL high school game.

New to the legacy mode this year is the addition of the Amateur Basketball League that starts before you actually start your legacy season. The ABL is a 19 day mini-league used to scout and obtain more detailed information about possible recruits you may want to target for your program. Each day is broken up into 8 different regions, with 16 different teams available for scouting purposes. You have the option of simulating the ABL but we already know true diehard legateers (may not be a real word but that's our take on what diehard legacy players would call themselves) are going to dive right in and take control. If you choose to attend each of the 19 days, were talking about over 100 teams that you'll be responsible to cover which means a ton of games to be played and scouted. Each day you can view one game which you can play or simulate. This has proved to be a great addition as you can really get a good read on a player. Say you're interested in that 6'11", 280 lb center and you want to see how he performs in game conditions...."
