I got a chance to download a play a few innings of the MLB 2K10 demo this morning. The first thing I noticed were that the graphics were pretty sharp on a standard definition TV in which I had no control over the picture settings. It's a temporary rig that I'm playing on, but I must say that the game looked pretty nice. The text was fairly easy to read and it wasn't difficult reading any of the tutorials, which is nice.
Once I got into the game I noticed no announcers being present which is probably to save disk space, but I actually kind of like it because it gave me a chance to take in the overall atmosphere of the ballpark itself. I think 2K did a good job in that aspect. The crowd was pretty responsive and just the general aura of the ballpark atmosphere really seemed to take hold in the game itself.
Now onto the game...
I decided to use the Yankees over the Phillies. Yeah, I know. The Yankees are supposed to be hated, but I've learned to respect the way the Yankees run their team through the years. Anyway, I gave up a lead off single to Philly and then was able to get a nice Double Play on the very next at-bat. That was then followed by a deep fly ball to left centerfield. I thought it was going to be a long day of Taterfest 2K10 The Demo, but was pleased that I didn't see one. I even noticed that if you tried jacking taters that it would result in high fly balls if not timed correct or if the ball wasn't in the right spot in the strike zone.
Pitching was fairly easy to get the hang of as well. I did notice that the CPU batters still don't chase balls out of the strike zone too often. I have never really felt that you get a good game of Pitcher vs. Batter when playing the CPU, you just hope they don't hit the balls that are thrown in the strike zone. Maybe when the game comes out that the sliders will fix that?
I will also say that the batting controls are very responsive. I felt that I was in control of my batter and that it wasn't difficult to get the timing of the pitches and I also felt that the controls didn't hinder my performance at the plate either. I did see an okay amount of hit varieties, but I did also see a good 3 or 4 singles to the same place on the field, which was over the head of the SS and dropping down in front of the LF. That being said, you can also use the L-stick to hit the ball to the opposite field if you like and I did it a couple of times.
After playing the demo, I think it's the best game in the entire MLB 2K series so far. We'll see what happens when the full game comes out next week.
